Campaign Organized by: Harshini Narayanan & Priyanshu Sugasani
Campaign Goal: $2500
The COVID-19 outbreak has been difficult for health care workers in Washington state. The number of people infected has escalated day by day and our front-line health workers have shortage of PPE (Personal Protection equipment) which is extremely essential. Hospitals across the regions are working with local manufacturers to increase production but this takes weeks or even months. States are competing with each other to procure masks or face shields for their hospitals. Masks especially, are being reused in hospitals making the conditions more unsafe for workers.
“I’ve got a two-day supply of masks, so we’re trying to be conservative,” said Dr. Stephen Anderson, an emergency physician at the MultiCare Auburn Medical Center in suburban Seattle. “You get one in the morning. You clean it and reuse it.”
They may be your friends, family, or even your neighbors. These heroes have been working tirelessly on the frontlines trying to secure the lives of others when they are not being protected themselves. They need to be able to do their jobs safely for them to work efficiently towards battling this virus. Viruses have one of the greatest spread rates in the hospitals and healthcare professionals come in the greatest contact and therefore the greatest risk. To prevent the spread of the virus one of the first steps should be to keep the healthcare professionals safe and the easiest way to do that would be through PPE’s.
SeattleFacemaskArmy is joining with the local nonprofit Hopes and Smiles creating a great opportunity for the community to come together and support our healthcare workers here in Washington who are putting their lives at great risk. This initiative strives to make masks and face shields with the help of volunteers and have them distributed to where their most needed. We are combining our manpower to unite and get these masks out to the people most vulnerable to get infection. We will be using simple materials for the masks and are looking for the most cost friendly solution when it comes to the logistics of these masks. Our goal is to raise $2500 to help procure supplies. This movement is open to all.
